Can A Plastic Bag Ban Really Work?
I was just reading a story on the recently proposed law in Seattle for implementing a plastic bag reduction program. The law would impose a 20 cent tax on each and every plastic or paper bag used, which of course is aimed at reducing the waste and oil consumption associated plastic bags, and has already been implemented in other cities and states across the

The majority of poly bagging is manufactured using polyethylene, which is made from a byproduct of oilrefining. Its strength and low cost makes it the perfect carrier for thousands of magazines and newspapers distributed across the country each year.
Many advertisers use poly bags as promotional plastic bags with custom printed logos
and bright colors. Some come as door knob bags, for publishers to leave
advertisements and reading material on doors of many potential customers. Trade
show bags are another popular item, but even more popular still are the custom
printed non woven bags
which offer a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic. Another alternative is paper retail bags which are completely biodegradable. Some eco-friendly retailers offer seed paper, which is made from recycled paper infused with wildflower seeds. This paper, once used, can be planted instead of thrown away.
transparent wrappings’ clarity, strength, thickness and anti-static abilities. As long as the product meets these standards, it can go through machineable mail sorting uninterrupted.People are often too quickto point the finger at plastic bagging as an environmental evil. But there are new ways of looking at poly bagging—a product that can happily fit into therecycle, reduce, reuse model.

Many Cities Declare Ban on Plastic Bags
Is this really going to work? Environmentalists have a fair
share to say against plastic, but it is in just about everything we use on a
day to day basis. I do agree that in some places, where plastic
bags get thrown away on the street, it would be better to see them
disappear. However, plastic bags are convenient, and when recycled, have many
different uses than just holding a box of cold medicine bought from the
drugstore.
If the alternative,
as it is in several states where plastic
shopping bags have been banned, is to choose paper bags
isn’t that just as bad? I thought we were trying to save the trees! So herein
lies the predicament. Of course there is the other alternative, which is to use
those reusable bags, but this is definitely not the choice most convenient. You
have to remember to bring them from home, bag the items you buy yourself, and in
times of high traffic, deal with a line of impatient customers behind you. Well
I’ve tried all of the above solutions in doing my part to deplete the use of
plastic, which I understand is an important issue for the environment.
